I am running thru the forest
Toward what I feel that north is
past the totems and the omens I ignore
& it’s times like this
That I wish
I was guided by a star
(so)Let's laugh about what isn't
& cry about our troubles
& sing about what was never meant to be
as one door opens outward
The exit lane grows crowded
with a rushing like 3 wishes to the sea
Emphatically
(So)
We are bathed in light from inside
& expecting nothing more than payment back in kind
There is more of that where I come from
Like an echo from an ancient drum
That hung a rhythm deep inside your heart
& at first it only carried us
Then soon it was more serious
Now I don't know who to blame or thank my lucky stars
& leaping like a lunar landing
one giant step for man(kind?) demanding
someone please turn down the gravity
Emphatically

Nits
03:07
|
|||
i was covered in nits when they found me
in a ditch by the side of the road
i developed a rash on the back of my hands,
on my legs, & my feet, & my toes
but the previous night was enchanted
by the haunts of the good old days
I can barely remember the hours
before they flittered away
the night & the day & the week & the month
it hardly makes sense to me now
i was burning inside & cut open wide
as I practiced the wows of my vows
I thought I could wow the crowd
oh shit now I’m thinking aloud
if it was just before say
mid-afternoon
That might make it more ok
but I can barely remember the weeks & the hours
before they flittered away

White Noise
02:15
|
|||
I can't hear the white noise
over the sound of your voice
I can't see or think straight anymore
moving toward the white light
sleeping with a nightlight
I can’t feel my feet touch the floor
I went waltzing thru the wasteland
As a song and dance man
I tried to fight war from within
But every turn I turned
only spurned another burn
so I did my best to not get pinned
easier said than…
I am open to the elements
I am open to new ideas
the zoo was full of elephants
but you really have to feel it
I can’t bear the weight of your world
it’s too much like gravity
the first responders first response
was uh, hey it’s me
the elephant died
she did 30 years inside
& then
the elephant died
she was never
gonna live forever
uh…
no, nay, never
no, nay, never, no more

An Oligarchy
03:07
|
|||
Dream I dream is the american dream
not the flicker blue on the tv screen
try to find a place somewhere in-between
on the outs & on the scene
it’s an oligarchy
I missed my chance
(when)sleeping in shifts
had such romance
hey the dream is dead
long live the dream
maybe use your head
before you move your queen
you can smell it in the air
if you open your eyes
don’t turn your nose up
if all your senses are blind
i hope your water finds its level
so you can put away your shovel
you’ve worked hard enough
so be careful
you old devil
do you believe
that your beliefs
have come under fire
from where you’re sitting
with out omitting
convictions prior
whoa well
if walks like a duck
then it must be true
& it’s the same for me
as it is for you

Still Brewing
01:56
|
|||
I hear storms from days B4 still blowing
you wonder where you left your keys
the sunset sez goodnight for the evening
the rain is shaking from the leaves
into puddles,
where it folds into the nightfall
into buckets
where it gathers by the bucket full
all pitter patter
inside of us all
it’s gauzy cloudy
there’s no moon out tonight
I’m feeling dreamlike
relying on the streetlight
the rest is shadows
there are shadows everywhere
filling the darkness
seemingly without a care
the wind at my back now
the rest is smokescreens
I would move away now
but this has always been my dream

Foretold
03:10
|
|||
I foretold
a great disaster
That I saw
inside my mind
the whole wide world
in wide eyed wonder
the whole wide world
inside my mind
that was the truth
as we knew it
later on it became a lie
nobody knows
that whole story
nobody cares
least you and I
now we won’t talk
about the old times
we won’t talk
about the golden days
don’t say much
unless you’re forced to
a half-hearted claim
says you’ve changed your ways
no one can save you
like your lord Nouveau
Do I look
like I’m from outta space
nobody knows you
like I do now
I only wish
that
wasn’t the case

Not The One
03:25
|
|||
Jehovahs witness on the porch
oh shit i think he heard me snore
sorry thanks & close the door
I’m not the one you’re looking for
dim the lights & draw the shades
time flies so fast & the season fades
seems the best laid plans are never played
& with that i guess that I'm ok
I’m low below the sky up high
dreamers dream dreams that never die
I got a couple in me that’s no lie
don’t get me started, don’t even try
the great pumpkin
the great Gazoo
so many options
too many to choose
something something something
do-lang do-lang
after the fact they say church bells rang
the door slams shut with such a bang
& I’m the one they couldn’t hang

Talk Me Off
02:59
|
|||
When I say I’m going nowhere
I mean I’m going nowhere fast….
Everybody crowding toward the outside,
try to carve a slice of edge.
don’t worry, we wont worry about the troubles
if you won't try to talk me off the ledge.
I burn myself to touch the stovetop
some lessons will betray you after all
there’s only one cure for no romance
some lessons will betray you after all
next time we won't argue with the numbers
neatly stacked into tidy handsome rows
betting on a fallout worse than failure
the end of empire deep into the throes
me i’m banking on a slight embankment
to feel the weight shift against my skin
people who throw stones make better lovers
& i’m still looking for the original sin.
everybody’s dressed like Adam & Eve
getting high on high holidays
getting crooked like a river
searching for a lesson to betray

More Awake
05:01
|
|||
I took a
new meditation
on the
current situation
when the
old medication
couldn’t
get me there
so I’m more awake than daybreak
I hope u got the first take
cuz i’m not coming up for air
yeah this sux
i kno u kno its tru
& it’s more than this
thats got u blu
well to tell you truth
I feel it too
earl grey, bergamot
I will say what you cannot
as a window to the mirror
I can’t see any clearer
Than the future creeping near
i rely on an elixir
supplied by the local fixer
now fear itself is my only fear
I turn the mirror on itself
Then
take one below the belt
&
see a face where there used to be a wheel
talk about your raw deal
Show me where i used be
& I’ll show you ancient history
more awake than daybreak
rolling like an earthquake

||||
10. |
||||
The moon will be up in an hour
So I will retire for the day
and dream I float in a harbor
lifted by the lap of the waves
The shoreline away in distance
Has nothing to add to the whole
Resigning myself to the mission
From ignition through cruise control
Straight to the heart of the matter
Don’t delay don’t delay
The myths are the gist for the batter
At least that’s what they say
The crux
Is in flux
Awake to the sound of the sunrise
Thru curtains and dust reveal
itso bright that it blinds your blind eyes
And sharpens your sense of feel
Alone with my brain as the day breaks
We argue to make up our mind
Think of the trip that you won’t take
If you’re Leaving the wake behind
Is the mist your muse or your master
there’s no use denying the fact
What came before you are after
and the last thing you need is a map
is the rift
a gift
